SAFETY SHUT OFF VALVES & SOLENOID VALVES
Electrically operated valves are used in combustion installations as a means or remotely isolating the gas supply or gas flow to a burner.
In most cases the valves are part of an electronically sequenced ignition and flame safety control system that incorporates control and
isolation of both the main gas flow and the pilot or start gas flow.
Various control system standards exist and these standards usually incorporate the use of valves certified and manufactured to specific standards.
Many types of safety shut off valve have been designed and manufactured; some incorporating diaphragm valves with relay solenoid valves,
some with hydraulic, mechanical clutch, or electrically powered solenoid operators.
In almost all cases, modern burners are fitted with two valves on the main gas flow and two on the pilot or start gas flow; this requirement
does vary depending on burner size and country of installation.
In some cases solenoid or safety shut off valves are integrated into multiactuator (monoblock) valves that can also incorporate,filters and regulators.

Valves can be supplied suitable for use with various types of gas and capable of operation with a wide range of electrical supplies.
Care should always be taken to ensure that the specification of the valve complies with the electrical requirements, gas operating pressure
limits and the local gas authority quality and approval requirements.
As well as the use of solenoid valves for the isolation of gas flow, some combustion installations have valves that are fitted for other uses.
Burners using continuous combustion air fan operation sometimes are fitted with three way solenoid valves on the air pressure switch system,
some burners are fitted with normally open vent valves as part of a valve proving system.

The Alcon GB solenoid valves are approved to EN161 and suitable for operation with natural gas,
towns gas, propane and butane. The valves are of the normally closed, energise to open type and are
suitable for ambient operating temperatures up to 60C. The body of the valve is manufactured using
aluminium and the internal parts are stainless steel. The valve is manufacatured to IP65 protection
classification and fitted with a 100% continous rated class H coil.
Valves are available to suit 110, 220, 230, 240v AV 50/60Hz electrical supply.

The Honeywell series VE4000 solenoid valves are approved to EN161 requirements. Valves are manufactured from
diecast Aluminium alloy and fitted internally with a AISI 303 steel gauze filter. Seals and gaskets are from hydrocarbon resistant
