FLAME SAFTEY CONTROLS & EQUIPMENT

To avoid situations were explosive mixtures of fuel and combustion air can occur without proper and correct ignition, modern burners are fitted with flame sensing and start-up sequencing equipment.

The main feature of this equipment is to prove the correct operation of the combustion air supply fan, the start and main gas solenoid valves and the ignition equipment in a pre-set order.

The timings pre-set into the equipment are designed to pre-purge and post-purge combustion chambers so combustible mixtures cannot occur before the controlled ignition period.

The flame sensing element of the equipment ensures that should a flame be extinguished by fault, then the electrical supply to the fuel solenoid valves will be cut off.

Various types of flame sensing methods have been used from heat sensing and thermoelectric devices to electronic units.
Many gas burners utilise the flames ability to be used as an electrical rectifier as the system of detection.

When applying flame safety equipment, care should be taken that the equipment installed is suitable for use with the fuel supply and electrical supply used and complies with local statutory requirements.
